Reconnect to your inner wisdom
Somatic is another word for the body. There are quite a few books out now highlighting the research that shows unresolved emotions and traumas can influence our health and the relationships in our lives. For example ‘The Body Keeps The Score’ by Dr Bessel van der Kolk or ‘When The Body Says No’, by Dr Gabor Mate. Our body is meant to work in an optimally aligned way. It is only when we are out of alignment that we have ‘issues’ in our life in our health or personal relationships or both. When we are out of alignment our body sends us signals which we call symptoms or pain. Often we have been conditioned to suppress these signals and think of them as wrong or bad or annoying. This often moves the issue elsewhere in our body or life. Symptoms and pain or issues and patterns that keep reoccurring in our lives, are signs we are out of balance and need to change something. As humans we often do not like to change. We prefer to suppress and cover up these signals and continue on with the usual programming. This may be a temporary solution. Usually when we are living like this our body and nervous system are in the chronic stress state.

If we live in a chronic stress state for too long the biochemicals, often adrenaline and cortisol, change our cellular structures and can create physical changes and or behavioural changes. If we are chronically stressed we are living in survive mode not the thrive mode we are meant to live in when we are in our alignment.
Nearly every chronic illness and pain has a chronically stressed nervous system state underneath it.
Somatic counselling can assist you to learn to listen deeply to the needs of your body. To gain access to your intuition and inner wisdom so you can be guided back into your optimal alignment.
If you get frequently triggered by issues or events then this is sign there is unintegrated emotions and often faulty beliefs driving our life and influencing our perceptions.
Somatic counselling with Jo, is a safe space, that is trauma informed and filled with compassion so you can begin to integrate your unprocessed emotions and energies.
Jo is a catalyst that allows you to access your own inner wisdom. As we gain connection to our inner wisdom our level consciousness rises. From higher states of consciousness we start to perceive ourselves and the world from a higher vantage point. Nothing outwardly may have altered, but if we are seeing the world from a higher perspective we usually become more compassionate and peaceful as a result.
Our perceptions are formed from our beliefs and our level of consciousness. Dr David Hawkins measured the levels of consciousness. (He has written many great books on this topic.) He found low levels of conscious involved emotions like shame, guilt and apathy, whereas emotions of love, peace and joy were exponentially more powerful. Depending upon the state of our consciousness, this determines our emotions and how we perceive the world. An example of this happened recently, one day I felt very sad and thought the world a harsh place, yet one day later, nothing had changed in my world but I was perceiving my world as a beautiful place to be in. Nothing changed except my level of consciousness. Our consciousness levels influence how we perceive the world and others.
As we rise in consciousness we realise it is who we are and who we are being that is more important than what we have or what we do.
Consciousness or awareness is the first step to returning to optimal alignment. If we are not aware of something we cannot change it.
Jo Hadley was a physiotherapist for many years, the last ten years was spent more as a holistic integrative physiotherapist as she used the technique Fascial Manipulation to link all areas, injuries and conditions of the body to work with a person as a whole. By working with the fascia in a whole body, whole person way, she realised how much ‘trauma’ and unprocessed emotions are held within our soft tissues. She realised from her own life’s well as listening to her clients – how what has happened to us, if not fully resolved can influence our mental, emotional and physical health.
In the past few years Jo has undertaken the Dr Gabor Mate inspired Compassionate Inquiry professional year long training as well as having completed a Diploma in Counselling. She no longer does hands on physiotherapy work, but recognises that working on the mental, emotional and spiritual bodies and integrating the sensations and energies trapped in these bodies is her new path. Jo believes if she addresses clients energies at these levels then often it follows the physical will change soon after. Changes occur in the physical body last. It is our thoughts, emotions, feelings etc that determine our biochemistry and the biochemistry will alter the physical if it is repeated often enough.
Jo has realised from experience with clients and from her own life, that if we do not address the whole person – the mental, emotional, physical and spiritual bodies we may not be in our optimal alignment. Being out of alignment often causes physical issues as well as interpersonal issues.
Jo knows we all have an inner essence/soul/wisdom etc that knows how to get us and keep us in optimal alignment. We are meant to experience more joy, peace and love than suffering. All humans have this potential. It often is blocked by our past traumas and unresolved emotions. The key is learning to listen deeply to our bodies and feel what they are attempting to share with us. Sometimes we can do this for ourselves and sometimes we require the presence of a compassionate witness – a somatic counsellor.Jo is a fellow human and is walking the same path of listening deeply to her SELF and integrating the past. The deeper she clears her own pattern the deeper she can listen to her clients and hold them in a safe space to allow the energies to be felt and integrated safely.
Jo has also become a Mindfulness Based Stillness Meditation Teacher and has been Certified in two Heartmath courses – ‘Stress, Anxiety & Self Regulation’ and ‘The Resilient Heart – Trauma-Sensitive Heartmath’
Jo was a marathon runner and completed two Boston marathons. She enjoyed travelling the world and Australia while attending various half and full marathons.
Today Jo attends yoga classes, meditates every day and does her own breathwork amongst other somatic tools that she teaches others with. Jo like to practice what she preaches or what she teaches.
Jo lives by the belief that her soul and true essence know what she requires to be optimally aligned in true health and harmony. Her life goal is to continue to integrate her own unprocessed energies and surrender all the past patterns, faulty beliefs and traumas that block her access to her inner wisdom. The clearer she gets to her true essence/soul the higher her consciousness and thus from higher levels of consciousness she can be a better catalyst for others as they walk the path towards their inner selves via the path of the heart.
If this resonates with you, Jo would be honoured to work with you to assist you in becoming your authentic self in conscious communication with your own inner wisdom.
“Your conflicts, all the difficult things, the problematic situations in your life are not chance or haphazard. They are actually yours. They are specifically yours, designed specifically for you by a part of you that loves you more than anything else. The part of you that loves you more than anything else has created roadblocks to lead you to yourself. You are not going in the right direction unless there is something pricking you in the side, telling you, “Look here! This way!” That part of you loves you so much that it doesn’t want you to lose the chance. It will go to extreme measures to wake you up, it will make you suffer greatly if you don’t listen. What else can it do? That is its purpose.”
